Scholarship Gives Nursing Student Chance to Succeed

Trevor Boyle had the desire to work in the medical field, and the reputation of Blackhawk’s Nursing program is what got him in the door.

A Janesville native and graduate of Parker High School, Trevor was in his junior year of an undergraduate program at UW-Whitewater when his son was born. He realized as a young parent how unprepared he was for those challenges.

Now in his first semester of the Nursing program, Trevor is the recipient of the Blackhawk Foundation’s Diversity Scholarship, which can be used in any Blackhawk program.

“This scholarship means a great deal to me. I am a father and currently work full-time to support him,” he said. “This scholarship helps lighten the financial burden that school places on my household.”

Growing up impoverished, Trevor lacked the resources one may need to go to college at any level and is the first person in his family to attend.

Trevor has learned that with hard work, desire and a great work ethic, you can achieve your goals and appreciates that the college is very involved in helping its students be successful.

“The best advice I would give anyone attending Blackhawk is to look into every resource they offer,” he said. “There is something for everyone and they are very accessible.”

Planning to graduate in 2024, Trevor would like to start his career as a Registered Nurse while furthering his education to gain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as his Nurse Practitioner license.

Diversity Scholarship

The BTC Foundation established the Diversity Scholarship to foster an environment that appreciates and values an increasingly diverse student body; to increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body; and to develop student interest, involvement, and leadership in diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility initiatives at the College. The scholarship is, in part, funded by the proceeds of the annual Soul Food Luncheon held every year in February by the BTC Foundation. Scholarship amounts from $250 to $1,000 are awarded to multiple students each semester. Students can be enrolled (or will be enrolling) in any program at Blackhawk and are a member of an underrepresented or marginalized group. Students can either be enrolled as part-time (minimum six credits) or full-time students and must be in good academic standing. This scholarship is available to new or continuing students.
